Habeck Trucking Inc is not only about moving freight. As a member of a small South Dakota community we also believe in being involved. This involvement not only provides an avenue to help the local area but more importantly builds moral and community spirit.

Having our offices located only 30 miles from Sturgis SD and the infamous “STURGIS BIKE RALLY” and our own enjoyment of riding, it seems only fitting that we would sponsor an event that would highlight some of the best roads in the area for a day of motorcycling. With the objective of a fun day of riding, and the benefit of providing a fund raising event the first annual “Habeck Hooligans’ Poker Run” was formed. On August 2nd motorcycles gathered at the Habeck shop to launch off the day. Many poker hands were distributed to riders and after miles of beautiful highway, a fun day was had by all and in the end a contribution was made to the Geis Family Memorial Fund.

It’s almost family. . .

Habeck Trucking is a small company, and we like to have the personal touch; whether it’s with the drivers, or our clients. And our drivers make the trucks theirs, and their fellow drivers become like family.

SD Wheel Jam is the perfect opportunity to bring that atmosphere into perspective. With entries from several states and Canada, the show centers on the trucking industry. Uniquely the event also includes a motorcycle and classic car show all ran consecutively, so there truly is something for everyone. 8 Habeck trucks made entry into the show this year, and 19 kept the business going out on the road. The drivers on the road teased about keeping things going while others were loafing off, and the ones at the show reflected pride in the fleet. It isn’t about “your” truck as much as “our” trucks. For weeks, the drivers have been fitting time into their schedules to polish, and add the chrome, for some it’s just about helping each other out. And when the dust settled, or more directly when the rain lifted there were many trophies for the shelf, and deserving pride in the company they represent.

Owner / Operator Unit 429 received a Show & Shine Trophy, and his girls understand that it’s a family project. They invested many hours into it also.

Company Drivers Unit #23 has 2 new trophies for their shelf, including 1st in “Best Tractor Trailer Combo 2007 & newer”. They also placed for the secound year in a row in the “Best of Show” class where they recieved the 2nd place trophy.

Owner/ Operator Unit 25 brought home the trophy for 2nd place in the “Best Tractor Trailer Combo 2007 & Newer”.

The driver for Unit 6 had his daughters wedding to attend, so another company driver stepped in and made sure the truck made the show; bringing home yet another trophy. Proudly displaying the “Best Tractor Trailer Combo 2000-2006″

A major part of the weekend though was spending time, and enjoying the representation of the transportation industry. Habeck Trucking takes pride in the Best of Fleet trophy for the 2^nd year in a row, but it’s not all about the equipment, its also the drivers and company support that make it possible.

As Dennis Daugaard launches his candidacy for South Dakotas Governor, he was out listening to constituents’ concerns.

Years of experience can produce professional drivers that know how to deal with weather conditions as well as demanding receiver schedules, and Habeck Trucking enjoys the opportunity to place an experienced professional driver in a truck they can be proud of. We allow that individual to customize his second home, but we also expect them to make the delivery in some of the most grueling weather conditions.

On May 1, 2009 one of our drivers retired from the business. He has drove for Habeck Trucking for just over 2 years, and we appreciated that he called our company home. Rich has had the very unique opportunity to not only drive in every state of the continental USA but also drove for many years in Hawaii. After almost 40 years of driving professionally full time, we wish Rich the best of luck in his retirement.

As the kickoff to the season, many drivers were able to take a day off and enjoy the Mid America Trucking Show in Louisville KY back in February. Now, with the nice weather approaching, the drivers are taking the opportunity to make everyday a show to the general public, as they keep things shiny going up & down the roads. Delivering freight is only a part of what our drivers do well; they also are determined to be professional ambassadors for the industry and their career.

South Dakota Wheel Jam, held in Huron SD the first weekend in June, allows our drivers the opportunity to bring home the trophies, and truly show off their pride. Will truck #23 bring home the prize again in ’09? Can we keep the title of “Best Fleet”? If we don’t, Habeck Trucking is certainly going to give the competition a run.

Our 48’ and 53’ tandem and sliding spread axle reefer units were certified with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) by May 1, 2009 far ahead of the July 16th deadline for out of state businesses compliance.

Continuing to apply new technology for use in the industry, we have selected to use ThermoKing Smart reefer units insuring that your load stays at the specified temperature while doing our part for the environment as well.

California Air Resources Board TRU ruling :

In 1998, California identified diesel exhaust particulate matter (PM) as a toxic air contaminant based on its potential to cause cancer, premature death, and other health problems. Diesel engines also contribute to California’s fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) air quality problems. Those most vulnerable are children whose lungs are still developing and the elderly who may have other serious health problems.

Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs) are refrigeration systems powered by diesel internal combustion engines designed to refrigerate or heat perishable products that are transported in various containers, including semi-trailers, truck vans, shipping containers, and rail cars. Although TRU engines are relatively small, ranging from 9 to 36 horsepower, significant numbers of these engines congregate at distribution centers, truck stops, and other facilities, resulting in the potential for health risks to those that live and work nearby. Since diesel particulate matter has been identified as a toxic air contaminant, the ARB adopted an Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) for TRUs and TRU generator sets on February 26, 2004.

On January 9, 2009, U.S. EPA approved ARB’s request for authorization to enforce the TRU ATCM, also known as a waiver from preemption. This decision was published in the Federal Register on January 16, 2009 (see Federal Register, Vol. 74, No. 11, Friday January 16, 2009, Notices, pages 3030 – 3033). This decision affects not only persons in California, but also persons outside the State who would need to comply with California’s TRU ATCM regulations to enter California with TRU engines. Therefore this action has national applicability.
